Set It Free

Set It Free

Post-Christmas

Now that the dust has settled a bit after all the festivities, I’ve promised myself some quiet time as the year comes to an end. Today, I’m listening to Celtic Christmas music and preparing for a deep cleaning (not just of my house, but also of my heart).

As we enter the new year, I hope that we can all stop and thank God for the good things in our lives, for Jesus (who is our enough), and for how He is working “all things together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose” (Romans 8:28). Based on many of the social media posts I’ve been reading, this may be hard for some to believe right now, but please know… He is working. I don’t always understand the Lord’s reasons or timing, either. But I choose to trust Him and His love for me. This alone gives me peace.

When it comes to setting goals, it is super important to etch out what you hope to complete in the coming months. I have found that writing things down and consistently re-visiting them throughout the year can be incredibly fruitful. The seeds get planted and it is amazing to see how much God enables us to complete.

As for the “resolution” challenge. I recently learned that its latin root word is “loosen” or “release.” A few other associated terms are “unyoke” and “set free.” What a great, fresh way of looking at the concept of a resolution! We are used to thinking of them a burdensome in and of themselves, like tasks and commitments we take on to force ourselves into better behaviors and patterns. But it is the opposite! It is an opportunity to walk away from that which weighs us down.

The question for me now is, “What can I loosen, unyoke, or set myself free from this year?” Many things come to mind… sugar, busyness, distractions that pull me off course, doubts, judgements, and a hurt or two.

When it come to your life, what would you set free? What do you pray God will help you unyoke yourself from this year?

My friends, I truly hope that you sense God’s love for you and enter the New Year seeking His best for your heart and life. He is so very good. Happy New Year!

In His Great Love,

Mary
